Renovation Update 3/15/10
Last Saturday evening about 50 people attended the parish meeting to discuss the proposals for the church renovation. These proposals are the recommendations of the Building Committee, which the Pastoral Council accepted. Those who were present for the meeting were positive in their responses to the presentation. This week I along with the parish trustees sent a resolution to Bishop Braxton asking approval to enter into a contract with White & Borgognoni Architects, along with the proposals, the scope of the projection was sent. Once the resolution is approved the architect will begin developing the plans and specifications and then bids will be sought for the planned work.
The estimated cost of the renovations is $1,340,000. The diocese guidelines require a parish which is undertaking a major project such as a renovation to have 65% of the cost of the project in cash and pledges. Currently we have approximately $712, 000 ($624,000 in cash and $88,000 in pledges). The parish will also receive approximately $83,000 insurance settlement for the May 8, 2009 storm damage to the bell tower. We will conduct a capital campaign in order to acquire additional funding for the church renovation. Presently we have borrowing approval at an attractive interest rate with a ten year amortization. I believe that as a parish community we will be capable of achieving our goal to renovate our church and in the process renew our church as we renovate our church. - Fr. Tom
